DIN 9021, refers to flat washers with an outer diameter approximately 3 times larger than that of standard washers. The main purpose of this product is to spread the clamping force exerted by the bolt or nut over a much larger surface compared to a standard washer (DIN 125). This prevents crushing and damage to the material, especially when installing soft materials such as wood, plastic, thin sheet metal or composites. It also comes to the rescue when securely sealing holes that have deformed over time or have been drilled too large for the bolt diameter.

The main difference is the outer diameter width. The outer diameter of the DIN 125 standard washer is about 2x the inner diameter (2xD). The outer diameter of DIN 9021 is about 3 times. For example, for an M10 washer, DIN 125 has a diameter of 20mm, while DIN 9021 has a diameter of 30mm.
If the substrate you are installing on is soft (e.g. pine wood, plastic sheeting or thin drywall), the standard washer or nut can sink into the material and damage it. DIN 9021 prevents this embedment by widening the thrust area and distributes the load evenly.
If you are going to use it outdoors, you must A2 (304) or A4 (316) stainless steel should be preferred. For indoor, dry environments or furniture, galvanized steel washers are sufficient and economical.
